okay. This is how low I've gotten. Having no other option if I wish to do tracking while awaiting a new prospect, I am in the meantime going to try tracking with a toy dog puppy (not my dog!). I will train him as if he were a sch. prospect-should I change anything to adapt this to AKC tracking should he turn out to be any good?
If anyone has attempted tracking a toy please advise. I intend to begin in the morning in the typical fashion with a box, a flag, and some weinies. Later should I shorten my steps, shorten the length of the track, anything like that?
Alex, I don't know how small your talking about but I tracked with my 15lb border Terrier. Rags was quite fast but his sire had to check out EVERY single foot step very carefully. I've seen many small dogs in AKC and it still depends more on the dog than the size. Some little dog can really move out. Like Deanna said though, your limitted by the amount of food. I used very small pieces of micro wave dried hotdog.
