I have a 4 month old German (via dogs from Belgium and Holland) working line pup. I have read most of the articles and own puppy 8 wks and Basic Ob. Dvds -= watched them multiple times and I have learned a lot. My pup is really coming along.
I don't want to do protection work or bite work with my dog, but would like to take his obedience training and work a little further (obviously when he is ready, but I'd like to get a head start on learning/training myself).
Would these building drive DVDs be useful to me? I don't want to teach him to bite, and I don't play tug of war games with him (nor do I plan to), but I'd love to build up his drive and focus as much as possible for general obedience.
Also, on the puppy DVD Ed briefly covers the PLACE command with the caveat that it will be covered in greater detail in the Obedience DVD. He mentions in the Obedeince DVD that he will cover the PLACE command later in the DVD, but he never did?? I've seen it several times, did I miss it somehow???

Definately buy the tape! People get the wrong idea about the "bite work" on these tapes. Your dog is going to bite the kong, rag, toy, etc. Even sleeve work in Schutzhund, etc, is nothing more than the dog biting a "toy" during the early stages of training. It will be a big help for drive and focus. Ed is working on a Flinks motivational heeling tape. The Flinks tape is a prelude to this and many other training tapes.

I'm with Old Earth Dog here. Great videos and you learn a lot. Expensive but well worth it. I recommend these videos to people when they comment about my dogs being so obedient and focused.

i think it is the only way o go if you want to work your dog in drive, i have had other dogs that had flat OB that were trained strictly with compulsion, if you have a dog with any drives (food or prey) it seems to be a must have.

I bought the building drive focus and grip, as well as preparing for the helper which by the way is a 4 hr dvd! and well worth the money.
I think the video is well worth it, the concepts in the video are great... highly reccomended

Thats good to hear. It looks like a good investment. The 1st 2 DVDs I got from Leerburg where real eye openers. I have read books on training, but you can't explain how to do it. Seeing demonstrated was like having a light suddenly click on in my brain and I finally really understood.
By the way, anybody know where that PLACE command section is located:
Also, on the puppy DVD Ed briefly covers the PLACE command with the caveat that it will be covered in greater detail in the Obedience DVD. He mentions in the Obedeince DVD that he will cover the PLACE command later in the DVD, but he never did?? I've seen it several times, did I miss it somehow???

I don't recall seeing the "place" command on the puppy video, but I have the older edition. That may be the difference. Course I'm old and forgetful. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
