All of us that are into working line GSD have heard of Lord. I have heard mixed things about this line. I was wondering what others think of it. Some breeders use it alot others do not?
People into DDR-line breeding hopefully will add to this, as I'm not a breeder.
I've seen quite a few dogs out of Lord vom Gleisdreieck. I think the one thing they all had in common was a strong civil drive, so my guess is that this was the father's genes. Perhaps what you have "heard" about Lord relates back to this. The Lord progeny I have seen vary from the excellent (Greg Mominee's PSD Alk vom Osterburg Quell and a friend's SchH3 competition dog) to the scary (a neighbor's not-suitable-for-human-interaction bitch), with several gradations in between. I think it's fair to say that you want to be careful of the bitch you select when breeding Lord's lines in on the sire's side. Again, I hope some experienced breeders will chime in here.
Intresting point. this is what I have heard. I have not seen many dogs with this line in them, but the one's that I have seen were a bit civil, but very nice animals. I have heard the flip side of the coin though, that he produces dogs that are not suitable to be around people also. There is a dog that is a Manto son in Germany right now that is suppose to be a great dog but will hurt a handler that does not know how to handle this type of dog. I thought that this would make an intresting topic, I would like to hear what others think. Ed, I do not believe I have seen Lord in your kennel, Maybe I am mistaken-I would like to hear what you think, as you have studied bloodlines carefully.
JMO from observation. I have yet to see a Lord son in the USA that can produce. The pups I have seen especially from one heavily used Lord son are nerve bags. I have been more impressed with the dogs that go back to Lord through his daughters, sort of like a Secretariat of the dog world.
Back to Lord through his daughters--excellent point. And one very good example comes immediately to mind: Gary Hanrahan's retired competition dog, Pirol van't Enclavehof. I don't know how Pirol did as a stud, but in person and in competition he was a sight to behold.
I have talked to Ed about Lord. He does not think very highly of him, Fero either. My dog is a Lord grandson on the top and GG grandson of Fero on the bottom. He's the most outgoing dog I will probably ever own. He's NOT civil and not handler hard. He is very compliant and sociable. He has solid nerves and this is a dog I bred from my own bitch so he's been with me from the beginning. Maybe he's a freak LOL
I have to admit that Lord is not a dog I would care to bring into my bloodline. I have not seen anything out of Lord that I felt was worth breeding for my kennel. Years ago I did buy a Pirol puppy (female) from a breeder in Michigan. It grew up to be very small and nervy - I gave it away (for free) The problem may have been with the bitch.
I did ask Bernad Flinks about Lord. He said that he has seen good dogs from him in Germany, he mentioned a few names. My short term memory has caused me to forget the dogs he told me about.
I can tell you that the guy who owned Lord in West Germany has a KK2 temperament. He is a real jerk. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
eD,
tHAT IS INTRESTING ABOUT THE kk2 AS TWO OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT.lol. I was intrested in hearing what people think as I have seen a few dogs that were good from him but heard that he produced crazy dogs, and dogs that were spooky and a bit nervy. I guess it just depends on what clicks with him. Like I mentioned befrore there is suppose to be a dog in Germany now that a top trainer has and is doing well with, bu the dog is a bit to handle, I guess it goes back to the nerves again.
