A lot of people like to own several male dogs, in their pack. But I think that one male and several females would be a safer bet. I mean the bitches they may try to get at each other, but with the human Alpha and dog Alpha stepping in between its less hassle. Isn't it, I really don't know because I keep the two girls separated because of my new experiment that I'm trying.
But I have notice that when I do let them play together the Rottie bitch is the one right in her face until I tell her to knock it off. Like I said the puppy doesn't know its low man on the totem pole. So at 50lbs she bravely stands her ground (though she looks relieved when I call the 90+lb bitch off). Some people who have lived through this, what do you think. Would it escalate to a real fight or just a show down?
Do females get along better then males, in situations like this? I mean they don't have ba&*s, so its nothing to prove right??? They say that this is the real reason for most Wars.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong... Bitches will fight a LOT more often and ferociously than a male/female or even a lot of male/male combos.
No matter what sex of dogs you have in your home, once you get above 2 you will notice a temperment change due to the competitve pack dynamics. Take any of those same dogs and put them in a home alone and you will often see a different dog emerge. People who think they can control this are fooling themselves. It is nature.

When two males fight, it can end (not always) if one dog submits. With two bitches, there is rarely any submission or acknowledgement of it, and the hatred will go on forever. Your "experiment" might be a dead dog just waiting to happen. I know some women that have more "ba()$" than lots of guys, and still be as sweet as apple pie when they want to. Nice combo IMHO.

Ohhhhhhhhhh please, give me 4 males any day of the wk rather than even 2 bitches . . . egads!
In my xperience, the boys will fight over *issues*, ie territory, bitches, food, toys, and rank. Bitches will fight over who knows what, including, but not limited to: jealousy, possessiveness and gawd knows what sets them off. I totally agree that bitch fights have a lot more ferocity. With the boys, there is a chance that sooner or later, someone will submit and the whole thing will be over, and they go have a beer or something. Bitches definitely hold grudges alot longer.
Not to say all males get along, esp intact and studs, but if I were going to wager, I'd put my $ on the boys.
And a male and female kept together can brawl, too. If you keep more than one, have secure confinement, ie crate or kennels or a combo of both. These are GSDs, not Labs. Some will make nicey w/other dogs, but many will not.

Oooops. Sorry. Guess we were talking about girl Rotties, not GSDs.
All the above still applies, they aren't Labbies.

The worst fight I ever saw was between two bitches. They were the worst of enemies. The only way to ensured they both lived to their next birthday was to sell one. Both were over 2 years (GSD and German short hair) and the alfa bitch (GSD) was spayed.

The above posts all hit the nail on the head. Bitches can be a bitch.
For pet homes, 1 male 1 female is the best bet. Then I say stop at that. Why people try to live with more than 2 dogs in their house I'll never know. After 2, they are creating a dog pack and are usually asking for trouble. If people want more dogs than that, its time to start building some kennels.
Oh and Don......I would be careful with your "experiments".

Bitches are MUCH worse than males. I have 2 intact males now. They have had some MINOR issues in the past but now get along great. (They are 3yo.) In the past I have had bitches that would try to kill each other. For NO reason other than they couldn't stand the sight of the other one.

Kim,
Where you at my house? The worse 2 bitches I have had were a GSD and a German Shorthaired Pointer. BOTH were spayed (at 6 months). They got along fine(They were raised together from puppyhood) until the GSD was almost 2 and she decided she was going to be the Alpha, even if she had to kill the pointer in the process. The next 2 worst ones were a GSD and a Siberian.

Tracy, if you lived in Washington then maybe you heard those two go at it. I swear all of Seattle did. I will never get two females again!!!!BTW the shorthair found a new home. Gotta keep the good ones and GSD's are the best. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> That GSD was crippled and still brought the cows in every night.
