Hi Milt, No I myself have not seen Airdales in Ringsport but they are allowed and I have heard of them having trialed in Europe but not on a large scale.
I did train one for personal work a few years back and it worked out not so bad and I have seen a few from England that had drive coming out the ying yang but the breed is just not being bred as a working protection dog.
Ringsport is just as the name suggests, a sport so it is covered by a lot of different breeds.
As an example a Border Collie can trial. Get my meaning.
I decoyed at the 1995 North American Ringsport Championships for the Brevets. Now this was not an Airdale but a not so common breed for protection based work that did attain a very good score along with the Ring Brevet.
It was a Bitch named Piper and she is the only Chessie with the Title in North America. She is owned by Rod Sparkowitch who is also a Level II National Select Ring Decoy.
I saw you give a demonstration at the Toronto Sportsmen's Show several years ago with Axel. What an impressive demo it was too. I remember you mentioning (after an audience question) that just about any breed of dog can be protection or bite trained, but after checking out this board for about 1 year I now know that not every dog can be a police dog.
Your story about the girl on the plane prompted me to respond. It is always inspiring to see a well trained dog out in public. I wish more people were more serious about obedience training. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Hi Caniche, thanks, wow, what can I say other than perhaps you can try and check me out tonight on CTV Talk TV on the Chatroom as we Debate Breed Specific Legislation. I am not in favour of BSL but rather Owner Related Legislation.
