hi guys,
i am still working on my dog. He is doing ok so far with obedience. He started to gain some confidence, bite harder than he used to. I just want to know how do you train him to pay attention to you all the time? and one more thing, my dog is 1yr old now but he weight around 105 lbs. Is he too heavy? what should i do if he is?
If you have a 1 year old Dobe and its over 100 pounds it is way to FAT. You need to be able to see the ribs on your dog - then its the correct weight. FAT DOGS HAVE BAD HIPS BECAUSE THEY ARE TO FAT.
Is he too heavy? what should i do if he is? As Ed said, yes overweight, I would cut the amount of food you give him in half for a month.... then go back up to 2/3rds after he is the weight you want and see how it goes. He may not like it, but he will like hip problems even less. And lots of exersize!
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
i still feed my dog puppy food, is it time to feed him dog food? or should i wait? I try to exersise him as much as i could. Hopefully he will lose some of those fat soon. One more thing guys? He is 1 yr old and he still squats when he pees, is it normal for his age? should him have one leg up already
Dobermanlova, he should have been off puppy food by 6-8 months. Now you'll have to really watch his calories. You should probably measure out his limited amount of food for the day, put it in a container and use that as his training treats. No extras. He must get that extra weight off if you want a healthy dog.
Squatting to pee is not unusual. My male dog, although neutered, is a big marker and depending on where he goes he changes his style to suit. i.e. He'll cock his leg on upright items like trees or benches, but if he finds a nice spot in the middle of the park on the grass he'll squat.
