Are there Rottweilers that compete in Ring sports? I know they're very large for the jumps but I saw one board where an American Bulldog's done very well, (French Ring). Reading this makes me wonder if more Rotts could compete as well. I know they couldn't compete like the Shepherd breeds on average but I was just wanting to know if some people did title them in the sport.
I think John meant the breed has titled in the KNPV in the past. I don't know if he meant that particular kennel. Regardless, I never would expect this breed to compete on the same level with some of the others. That's simply because some of the events don't dictate to this breed as well as others, from what I've seen. I just wanted to know if any kennels competed/titled their lines in European dog sports.
Brad,
there are very few Rottweiler titled in other european sports. Last year, a Rottweiler came in third in a KNPV competition for papered dogs. This year, I know at least one Rottweiler that is going to a KNPV stud dog competition. I know some french ring titled Rottweilers, and at least one is FR 3,but that is it. Like you correctly pointed out, we should not expect this breed to go on the same level as others, more over because it is now much more a show breed than anything else.

Rotts in France are at a bit of a disadvantage compared to years gone by. What I mean by this is that the breed is on the Dangerous Dog List in France so many sanctions are now in place in regard to Rotts in France.
No there are not a lot of Rotts that are doing Ring anywhere in the world.
Many reasons why and I am not about to take up the whole day why, but suffice to say that Rotts can go to the three level without a problem.
When I competed in Grutzwald France with Axel in Ring III there was a young man in trial for the first time for a Three with a Rott. This dog was trained under the eye's of a very famous trainer, Primo Orlandini aka the Magician.
Everyone thinks Ring is about speed and agility and I suppose to a point it is but this Rott was trained to do everything in super slow speed. The bite work, the obed and the jumps were done at a snails pace to max the energy holdback for the dog.
At the end of the day the Rott did attain a Three Score and it was rated excellent after doing every exercise at a walk or at the most a trot.
