Didnt see where to put this. Maybe you can create a topic for this?
this is the link to the petition for miami/dade florida
please sign it and pass it along.
there is a massacre of pitbulls down there with crimestoppers offering rewards for the location of pitbulls.
on top of this there was an incident in jacksonville with a "pitbull". Broward, Dades neighboring county is also considering the same legislation Dade now has.
Please help and pass the information along.

I didnt post it under the pitbull thread as I dont feel it is solely based on pitbulls. Breed specific legislation affects all of us. Today they are banning pitbulls, tomorrow rotts, chows, gsd's, etc. What is worse is that after the San Francisco case and what has happened in Europe protection sports are now a new target. So I dont feel this is a "pitbull" issue as much as it is a canine and protection sports issue.

In fact, the more I think of it the more aggrivated I am that this would be moved to the pitbull topic. BSL is a matter of rights. I do not own pitbulls but I do own a bullbreed and I do enjoy schutzhund with my dogs. If we let the government regulate what kind of breeds we want to own we all lose. Check that stats on bites. Lots of our beloved friends in there. Check out the issues with protection sports in Europe. Only a matter of time it hits home, not that it already hasnt. With situations like the one in San Francisco in the public eye it is only a matter of time protection sports will be targeted at the rate pitbulls are.
This is NOT a pitbull issue, IT IS A RIGHTS ISSUE.

How about this one:
'Dog as a deadly weapon'
By Jonathan Osborne AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Friday, April 19, 2002
"Christopher Hernandez, Trinidad Jaimes and Michael Thompson were arguing over $20 on Monday, according to police.
Jaimes and Thompson said Hernandez stole the money, and they wanted it back. Hernandez said he didn't take it.
So, police say, Thompson told Jaimes to "get the dog."
The attack that followed would lead to what prosecutors say are the first aggravated robbery charges in Travis County that name a dog as a deadly weapon.
Travis County Assistant District Attorney Bryan Case said the case may also be the first time in the nation that a dog is being considered a deadly weapon."
(Hopefully this will not be the case... I also posted this on another forum; one knowledgeable person added that Texas law currently list weapons deemed to be deadly weapons and also prohibited weapons. As of yet,a dog is not included.)
If my attempt at making this site structured and enjoyable to our members offends you I'm sorry. I do the best I can and I do not expect to make everyone happy.
This law currently directly effects pitbulls, thus the reason I suggested that it be move to the pitbull thread instead of the help wanted thread were it had nothing to do with the thread.
However, I do think this is a really crappy law, and I signed the petition. I don't like the gov't telling me what medicines I can and can't use, telling me I have to wear a seatbelt, making it illegal for a voting and able-to-kill-someone-in-the-army 18 year old not to drink (im not 18 by the way), and I don't like them telling me that I can't have any kind of dog I want when people have venomous and baby eating snakes as 'pets'. This list could on and on.
