I had two German Shepherds,One had DM and the other had a pancreatic insufficiency, both about the same age.Mind you these dogs were my whole life.I will try to make this short,ha.Mick took his 1st lame DM step I panicked.I am a Medic so I knew what I was in for.On the other hand I have always loved Covy Tucker Hills Manhattan,I contacted the breederand told my story to her,I had said I will want a dog when my boy is gone,I asked her if I could send her money so the pup would be paid for in case I wanted a pup right off or at all.Since then I have read how the American bred shepherds are so linebreed and now all these genetic problems are showing up.For fear of ever having a DM dog again I e-mailed the breeder and very nicely said, seeing that I am not going to buy a pup from you,do you think you could send my money back. Two years ago I knew nothing about all the problems and you people that are reading this probably think I nuts,BUT I trusted this woman for she is a AKC judge plus any one that bred Manhattan had to be ok.Wrong Wrong I was.I sent this woman 2600.00 or more to hold for me only if I decided to buy from her(at the time I was so upset of the thought of my male not being able to walk)I just wanted to have a paid pup on the way,for I knew I would not have all the money at once, plus I thought she was a big time breeder I wanted her to know I was interested.I saw no photos signed no contract and we never discussed how much this pup was going to be,I know now I should have never trusted her.Don't I have the right to change my mind??? this was over almost a 2 year period. It was shortly before They were put down I knew I did not want an American bred for sure.
When I asked for my money she said we do not send money back we sell dogs, she said I signed a contract and I told her to show it to me,she couldn't cause there was none. She said you bought a pup,too bad,You can take the pup and sell it yourself. Now for 2600 no one is going to buy a American bred dog.I do not want the pup nor do I want to be out 2600.00.The was never any bloodlines discussed nor any photos sent. She knew I was in a bad way too,I think she took advantage of me big time.
Please I could use some idea's here.
Also I have since bought and plan to get at the end of this month my west Germam Male, for almost half the price.Parents VA rated and it goes on.Nice people.

I would take Steve and Charlies advice! I would also contact the AKC...you said she was a Judge! Get them to see your side. The AKC may not do anything, but the breeder will then know you are ready for a fight. I would also report her to the better business bureau, however I doubt she is a member. Then I would would contact your local news station and see if they have one of those programs like "six on your side" or "seven can help"... the media loves to make dog breeders look bad! If all else fails take an ad out in her local paper explaing you experience....this will cost you the price of the dog, but I'm the type of person that would gladly spend the extra Money.
I think you will get your money back if you go to court.
However, hiring a lawyer is really impractical since it will cost more than 2600. With that said, I have people come into my office all the time and I will make a phone call or write a letter for no charge and about a third of the time it works. I am sure you can get a lawyer to write a letter for little to nothing.
If it doesnt work then you will need to file in small claims court. Small claims court is really geared for people who do not have attorneys as the rules of evidence are very much relaxed (at least in Texas). I would definitly try to get my money back.
Thanks,I have my laywer with the e-mails and my canceled checks.Do you know the woman I am talking about??I thought she was such a great breeder and person. But I only knew her from the famous dog she bred,"Manhattan"

I forgot to say,she is in California and I am in N.H.kind of hard to go to court.I am having my laywer write a letter to her or them, two women are together in this deal. She seem so gready, they know I never signed a contract nor did I pick out a pup or even see any bloodlines. Not nice,I would like to know if anyone has bought or knows anything about this breeder???
