I have a Female Shepherd that came into heat and stood for the stud even though she hasnot stopped bleeding. Is this normal or does this mean there may be a problem? From the first drop of blood that I seen she stood for the male on the 10th day and the next couple days she allowed him to mount but started to get ugly towards him and they never tied again. Any information would be appreciated.
It is difficult to address this as there are no real blanket answers, each female is an individual with only some minor similarities among females of the same breed. Some females are just not easy to breed to, some are ( I'm trying to be polite here) more willing participants in copulitory act. This has been my experience, those in the business, please correct me if I am wrong.

I think the best time to breed is the time when the bitch stood for the stud. That`s the way nature made them. I think it is usually at the 9th or 10th day(pls. breeders correct me). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I wait untill the female has finished bleeding to breed her. usually breed 2 consecutive days twice a day. I am not an expert but my gradfather did it this way and this is what he a taught me and it has always worked for me. Good Luck.
Usually what happens is the blood gets lighter in color when they are ready to breed. she doesn't actually "stop" bleeding. When the bitch stands for the male.. that is great! as they start to go "out" of heat..they can get bitchy to the boys. There are some girls that just hate being bred.. When I do a breeding I breed every other day.. I try to get 2 breedings in. In a young male the sperm will last at least 4 days.. so there is no need to do them daily..
