Well you learn something new every day on this board. I didn't have a clue what a Boerboel was so I checked it out.
I had never heard of the breed before - am I the only ignorant one here????
Nope, to be completely honest I had to look it up myself this morning... Looked like a mastiff with a tail that got caught in the lawnmower to me!
Andre, just like any of the "rare" breeds you will find individuals that can do the sport, but I am betting you would be much better off with a more conventional breed if your goal is to do well. If you just LOVE the Boerboel and can't live without one, then hey try it, but if you really want to play the game get a shepherd. I can even recommend a kennel for you... big hint... Look at the top of the page.
Curiosity was the reason why I asked - and because I am interested in working dogs in general. I have a shepherd myself and I am not interested in changing to another breed. But to learn about other breeds is no danger to me (Van Camp :-)

Who care's what breed you have FUN with. Schutzhund is simply in outlit for a person and a dog. I've seen poodles that can perform in Sports. If you want to try a different breed, give it a shot. About 100 years ago, someone tried German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois ect... It shouldn't be about breed comparison, just what makes things fun for the two of you.
Man, I lived in Africa for almost 4 years and never even *heard* of one of these dogs. You learn something new everyday, I guess.
