I am in the process of looking for a litter of working Black Russian Terriers that would be on the ground and ready during this summer (04). I am primarily interested in protection work, but would really like to qualify SAR also.
I had originally been looking at Giants, but I have spent about 2-3 years researching this breed whenever I could. Being career military I have been gone quite abit, but I am finally transferring to Nebraska for my twilight (last) tour of duty.
Does anyone know of any litters, or have any advice as to what lines are which, and which lines are still being bred for specifically for work?
If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking.
kevin,
i researched the brt for a couple of years and decided to go with the giant. i couldn't find anything i thought i would like in the way of working lines. i did like van dog the best though.

whereabouts are you - ie are you looking for a dog in the US or an import? The reason I ask is that the lines we now have in Australia were selected for conformation and working ability. There are a number of Eurpoean breeders who have fabulous working lines but you may need to wait for a pup. I know the number of BRT's in the US is pretty limited - as it is here of course so your chances of finding what you want in the US are probably slim. If you are interested in getting a European dog then pls let me know and I will post some Eurpean breeders you can try.
I have to say I have two of these guys - I bred, showed and worked GSD's for many years but the BRT's have now taken over my life. Smart, quick to learn, active, faithful etc to a tee. I wouldn't go for anything else now.
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole
I don't know anything about the breed at all. But, a friend of mine in Monticello, Florida is a breeder, I believe. I cannot tell you whether they are working lines or not, but I can tell you, those things are pretty darn big. If they did work, I pity the helper. If you need more info, pm me and I can hook the two of you up.

Just my two cents....but get a dog from Ukraine or Russia. Some Polish breeders are ok...>VAn Dog is good....but over all the Russians keep the better dogs. Mine is from Ukraine....Horobro Serdce....excellent breeder...Ms Anna Baranova. I really havent liked any US BRTs ive seen.
