I haven't had the luxury of being able to breed numerous litters over the years, and don't forsee that I will ever be able to do that, so I have questions for those that have been able to have a 'living laboratory' regarding genetics and capabilities.
Given that various aspects of temperament and character are genetically transmitted, would those of you who have had the 'living laboratory' please give some insight as to how these characteristics are transmitted? Which drives are dominant, which recessive - what does one see regarding balance of these drives with regard to dominance or recessiveness.
Character/courage/confidence - I know a lot has to do with imprinting, socialization, etc., but given essentially equal environmental input and proper training and socialization, what does one see as the inheritance pattern of these various characteristics?
Since I frequently see statements that good 'working' dogs come from good 'working lines' then these characteristics are primarily genetically based so I was just wondering if those of you who have been breeding these characteristics successively and successfully, would be able to give input as to the inheritence patterns.
