I ordered the regular size collar because my dogs neck is appx 18 inches. The collar seems tight to me. It was hard to get over his head. How much slack do I actually need in collar?
Tracy you never put a prong over the dogs head. You have to unhook one of the prongs. It will unhook by one of the prongs by the chain. Take a look and play around with it. A prong should be tight you should be able to slip two fingers inbetween the neck and collar.
Actually.....
I have that tape, and there is no prong collar in it anywhere. It is all choke chain training. Great tape, but don't get it for a prong fitting lesson!

Heresy!!!! How can you do obedience with no prong......

I did order the video...I just did not watch it before I tried to put the collar on. It does show the proper way to fit the collar. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm going to watch the video 2 or 3 times before the weekend and then start the training on Saturday.
I'm almost positive the prong is in there. Maybe not fitting it properly, just how to give a proper correction. You are correct Lonny, there was instruction on how to correctly put a choke chain on. I could be wrong on the prong. Wouldn't be the first time!
