I know that too much line breeding can be bad and you will end up with crap. But my dog has about 2 dogs that are line bred on Bernd Lierburg and another 3 dogs that go back on him. This all takes place about 7 or 8 gen. back. Can this be bad?
Howie - you are lucky to have a dog that is line bred on Burnd. Some of my best breedings have come from dogs line bred on Burnd. There is nothing wrong with line breeding - the only bad line breedings are those that don't work.

Linebreeding and inbreeding may be the same concept but when we are talking dog breeding inbreeding is direct breedings mother-son, sister-brother, halfbrother-halfsister, etc.
Linebreeing is farther back. Like great grandparents or farther. Close is like 2-3, far is like 5-6.
There is a difference in the way the terms are used.
So really, If you have dogs that are known to pass on good traits then there is really no limit on the amount of times that they are linebred? Even so will too much of this linebreeding result in shit no matter how good the traits of the dog(s) that are line bred. This, to me, would seem to make a need for a wider gene pool.

When line or inbreeding, you get alot of the great traits, but there is a chance and about equal for the bad traits of a dog to be put into the pups. So when doing this in a close situation you better know what you are doing and alot about the dogs that you are breeding with.
