I have a Czech GSD that just turned seven months old. His sire is Aridon Snehulienka, a Ben Hozmi son who is 5V5/55 and IPO3 93/98/99 and goes back to Ingo Rudingen and Held Ritterberg. His dam is Poly agar, a Grim daughter with SVV1. Is anybody familiar with these lines? What does that survey stand for? I know the 5/55 is really strong defense.
So far I’ve only worked him using the Leerburg puppy bite training video and he’s countering very well. He’ll shake his head several times and rebite to get a firmer grip. He also has crazy prey drive for his Kong, which I use to get him to sitz and platz. When I give him the platz command he virtually throws himself to the ground in drive. This is pretty much all I’ve done with him since I haven’t started any compulsion training at all. This is my first dog and I’ve often heard that it’s not good to start correcting until the pup is at least one year old. Do you guys follow this guideline for training or would you recommend me getting him to a Schutzhund club now and begin formal obedience? He seems to have good retrieve drive as he always comes back with the ball. But he sometimes dodges me at the last moment so that I don’t take it away. I know this is my handling mistake as he has associated coming to me with the loss of his toy. I’m going to buy the Bernhard video to see if I could fix this. Another question is do you leave the dog’s prey toys (Kong) in the kennel with him or take it in with you?
Thanks
Annie will be able to tell you all about the lines. I have a Grim son. So am familiar with that. Annie, is just amazing with her knowledge of the peds though.
As far as training. I would be doing the bite tape as you said, but also the Flinks tape. My Grim son is a very hard dog. The focus is something that is good for him.
Thanks for the help,
I always thought that Ben Hozmi was up there with Grim And Titus PS. Could you tell me more about him. If he had some nerve problems then what is he know for?
Thanks
I don't know? Thats what I was told about Ben. His brother Bob produce lot more working dogs than Ben. Sister Bessy didn't do bad either. We have pd here who is grandson of Ben and he is one helluva pd. He also is Grim grandson.
Oh look, just like mine, a Ben and Grim grandson <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> . Thanks for the info. Your knowledge on bloodlines is indeed amazing. Do you know anything about the AGAR dogs/bloodlines? I've also heard that they produce good working dogs. Is this true?
I heard a trainer say that Agar dogs were good and when I look at my dog's dam pedigree I see a lot of Agar. I'm guessing it's a kennel.
It has Ida Agar, Dux Agar, Caty Agar, an on Grim there is an Argo Agar.
I realized after I left the board that you was asking about Poly's lines;-), well it was late and I was't thinking. I really don't know that much about the Agar dogs, they are not that much in the trials over there. I know the used Grim and Ida combination several times.
