Can someone please explain the difference in the old czech bloodlines vs. the new. I have gotten the impression that the old lines were more focused on police service qualities. Correct me if I am wrong. Have the lines declined since then? When did the old lines end and the new lines start? Just curious.
well, I can't give you any definite answer, but I can give you a theory on the difference between "old Czech dogs" and "new Czech dogs". The older ones were bred under government control for border patrol, with some civilians helping out the government owned kennels. Now, when free trade has opened up, they soon found out that they can make GOOD money by breeding dogs and sending them to America. Being poor, the idea of someone paying $1000US for a pup is a big incentive to start selling some dogs. I think you get the idea.
Not to say there aren't those that are still "doing it right" as there are, they have serious programs and aren't in it so much for the money.
The same person who was breeding the old dogs under the Government control is now doing it w/o. Same breeder same philosophy. Lines evolve. I like the Old/New Czech lines very much. Lots of agression. High thresholds. Very tough dogs. Big boned...
So your saying that the Old lines were bred in a more controlled and focused evironment. Is it not this way now with the New lines because of the American influence? Are there still the same qualites being bred into the New lines. There has to be some reason why they have "New" and "Old" lines. There has to be a difference somewhere when they decided to change the name to the "New" bloodline. I can see why the DDR have New and Old lines because of the influence of show lines in the New East German dogs right? I dont really see Old and New WGR lines. They have pretty much kept the same qualities. I see more and more breeders who like the old czech lines better.
