I think there is a thread about him here somewhere, but I can not find it so here goes the newbie question (please be kind!).
On Gunnerholts I see that he has some DDR, I don't recognise the other dogs, what else is he? What are people's general impressions of him and progeny as far as temperment, nerves, drive and health?
Reason for asking is that last night at obedience class I saw a 7 month old pup who was by him. This dog was nice looking, calm, even tempered, social without being pushy yet was not the type to insigate a friendship. I talked to the owner for a few min, but didn't have time to really talk. My impression was that he was a nice pup, but I have no idea what his drives, thresholds exc are like.

His pedigree is DDR (Sire top line), Czech and a little West German Working lines (dam bottom line).

I have never seen Brawnson or any of his offspring so I cannot comment.

Shelly and Mike seem to regard Their 'P' & 'H' Litters very highly (the pedigrees are nice).

Brawnson is geneticlly a very tough dog himself, from what I've seen. He pretty much represents the real deal, what everyone strives for. And from the offspring that I've seen, they are generally strong nerved, even tempered, with super high drive. However, I don't think he's famous for producing dogs like or better than himself. Now don't bash me for that if you happen to have a nice Brawnson pup, the many that I've seen were all generally nice. The fact that they were not like him is just my personal opinion. But then again, Mike Deihl is a very good handler and deserves most of the credit.

I have a Brawnson son out of a Czech (Pohranicni straze) bitch. In my conversations with Mike Diehl, my Kane is almost a carbon copy of Brawnson (though he is not as dark, even though he is still a dark dog, and he doesn't have the rank issues that I've heard about Brawnson).

Now, my observations from my dog (mostly) and conversations with those that have Brawnson kids...
Lots of dominance towards other animals, but not what I would consider aggressive. Very high prey drive, with an ability to take quite a bit of pressure a bit sooner than you would expect another dog to handle it. There was (and this is something I've found in common with others) a flat spot around 4 or 5 months until about 8 or 9 months of age, then it was like the dogs woke up one morning with their drives amplified (beyond what they were as pups) and need to work kicked into overdrive. Tracking is great, even from a very young age (my boy seemed to be a natural, though he is really fast down a track, he is VERY accurate). Aggression towards the decoy is very impressive once they start maturing. OB is OK, good position, but takes a lot of work to get "sport level" focus. Very clear in the head as to what is and isn't a threat, social in a friendly environment (but won't pressure someone to pay attention to them...unless it's family), very calm in strange situations and on strange surfaces. I would also say there is a good level of sharpness there too. The only thing I'm really "worried" about are hips (I've been too chicken to prelim my boy, but will find out this Nov when he turns 2).

I'm not overly worried about Arko Honest by himself. Brawnson's ZW number has gone up a bit lately (past year or so), and while Elsa (Kane's dam) was 0/0 (as well as the first 2 gens of her ped), she is linebred 3-3 Klara Pohranicni straze who was 0/2 (or 2/0...can't remember).

Call it my "preparing myself for the worst, to be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong" plan. The combination could lead to failure, could lead to good...but I already know one of his sisters was prelim'd to go OFA Good. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The one thing that has been told to me by people that have Brawnson pups is that they are not hard dogs.

I like very hard dogs. I don't do so well with dogs that are not hard.


Soft, or sensitive, isn't a bad thing, by brother has a sensitive male Malinois and nobody likes to play rough with that dog. . .I just have a personality conflict with them.

I would have to guess that 0/1 or 1/0 or 1/1 would be about like 'a' fast normal and that 0/2 or 2/0 or 2/2 would be like noch zugelassen. Our resident Czech experts could tell you for sure. The scheme is a little different as each hip gets a grade, rather than getting an overall grade on both hips.
