Four years ago my lab/sheppard mix ran out into the snow and has never returned. A family friend brought over his sheppard last week and I was hooked again. It's breed is is a red something sheppard and the dog is huge. the dog weighs 190 lbs. I had never seen a sheppard with red hair in him. I live in central NC and want to find a breed of german sheppard that is really large. I don't care for solid colored sheppards, but I also don't know what breed there are that grow really big. Any help in locating the proper breed name, a kennel, an adoption service, and also an approximate cost of such animal would be greatly appreciated.
sounds like you're talking about a King or Shiloh Shepherd, those are NOT German Shepherd Dogs. And personally, I wouldn't own one if someone paid me to!
These dogs are a nightmare and a half waiting to happen. They will almost certainly have hip dysplasia, and the lines of this type are so inbred that there are all kinds of strange health problems. If you want a GSD then get a male in the 70 to 90lb range. If you want a monster dog then get another breed.
Thank God that I have not seen one of these "GSDs" in person because the owner would get an earful for calling their dog a GSD in front of me. Only in America would this happen  .
"Dog breeding must always be done by a dog lover, it can not be a profession." -Max v Stephanitz
Such a dog is far too large, whether it's a "shepherd" or anything else. Too large, because the skeletal structure of a dog just can't handle that kind of weight. And you'd be lucky if it lived longer than 6-7 years.
OTOH, a lot of people will tell you a dog weighs 190 pounds when it's nowhere near that. Doesnt' matter: still too big and definitely not a GSD--not even close.
