I just want to ask how to train a GSD to growl and show teeth on command. I have succeeded in getting it to bark relatively easily with food but are stumped on the growling thing. Any Ideas?

Title: Training non-biting dogs to bark at the door
This will give you an idea on how to do that. You should also read the article on drives.
You can't teach a dog to do that by yourself, you will need someone that is a stranger to the dog help you.
I would post a link, but I can't get the page URL to come up on my browser with Ed's new site format. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
The way to do that on this kind of format is to right click on the page you want (anywhere on it), scroll down to "properties", and then the actual URL will pop up. Just copy and paste it.
i did read Ed's Article on Barking and its was very informative but it did not mention how to growl and show teeth on command. I have already got the barking on command down ...Good Geblout...:-) but with the growling and showing of teeth, I am stumped...
my dog has been doing it since he was seven weeks old and has become his favorite treat. find situations which make your dog perform the required act in the first place (ie.....strangers, grocery buggies, ect..) when he? does growl and show teeth - praise (treat if necessary)praise and praise, be sure to give it a command name such as "smile". eventually dog will learn that command with his actions results in reward. it is exactly like teaching sit or speak. key is to find situations where he will do it naturally without desensitising him to the stimuli.
Have you been working with a stranger? I understand you have the dog barking on command, but it will be the defensive drive of the dog that comes through with more mean sounding/looking barking and growling.
It isn't something you train, the dog will begin to do it on it's own as his defensive drive is stimulated.
I think of growling/snarling/showing teeth as more a sign of fear and insecurity. I think a firm bark is what you want. Most strangers are not going to come any closer if he stands his ground and is not afraid.
The Dog is 1 year old and very active. Lots of play and prey drive. I haven't defense trained him yet. Very light obedience training. No Compulsion just praises.
I haven't been able to get him into situation that he actually growl so its very difficult to train.
