Hey all,
I've started working on writing a book about real world protection and I am looking for documented, verifiable cases of dogs that actually protected their owners for illustration, examples, and case studies.
An ideal case would be an event that occurred and was published in some form of news media. After I can evaluate the event, I'll arrange an interview with the owner/ handler for more details of the occurrence.
Sooo......if anyone cares to PM me with links/ referrals or leads, you'll get a nice "thank you" in the book.
The book is primarily about dogs that can or have actually protected their owner and the training involved for an ideal outcome. I'll also touch on SchH a tiny bit, but the book is primarily *not* about sport, since nearly everyone dog book that has the word "protection" in the title is a SchH manual.
Thanks for your help, I've been writing tomes about what I view real world protection actually entails on this site, so maybe I can educate future dog owners and save them from making the common mistakes that we often see with personal protection dogs.

Will, I'm not sure my story counts but I'll let you be the judge. In addition to my male PPD GSD I have a female American GSD "pet". Both dogs get along well with our cat, who doesn't take any crap from a stinkin dog.
One Christmas my in-laws were here with their spoiled French Poodle. My wife was feeding our female GSD in the kitchen (the male was outside) when the poodle got nasty and charged at our female for the rights to the food. Our female is super-sweet and knew that it would be wrong for her to fight with the little mop-head so she withdrew. However, the cat was close by witnessing all of this and ran over, confronted and chased away the intimidated poodle.
So there's my story. Absolutely true but no press account. Our cat protected our GSD from the French Poodle.

Will,
Patsy Hamilton's dog Austia Von Der Traumenheim SchH I protected her owner against an abusive boyfriend. Cindy can verify this story. Patsy and her boyfriend were arguing in the kitchen while Austia lay chewing on her ball. He pushed Patsy once and Austia stopped chewing the ball and looked at him. He then shoved her the second time which was very hard and she hit the fridge and slid down. Austia dropped her ball, flew threw the air and nabbed the guy in the arm..full bite I might add I believe Austia was about a year and a half at the time, but I could be mistaken on the age. Cindy may know. We were so proud of Austia

ROTFLMFAO, ROTFLMFAO!!!
PATRICK MURRY did you write One Christmas my in-laws were here with their spoiled French Poodle. OMG, spoiled and French in the same sentence, NAH!!, get the hell out of here Pat, French, spoiled, LMAO. Your rattling our chain right? LOL I won't even go there about the little "FRENCH" poodle running from the fight.
PS: Before anyone gets cranky it's just humor I couldn't hold, unfortunatly I happen to be half french, my mother was born in France. Throw the punches, I'm a big boy I can take it. LOL Just thought I'd throw some humor around, everyone have a good day. ~CHRIS DUHON

Looking forward to the book Will. I've got more than one story about a GSD/collie I grew up with but nothing verifiable. We lived in "The Hood" and she had a well earned, badass reputation.

This can't be verified officially, but I'll share it just for the heck of it.
When my friend was 12 years old, his family bought an adult Doberman Pincher. My friend took care of the dog, since his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother was an untreated schizophrenic. One day the father came home in an alcoholic rage and threw my friend up against the wall. The doberman immediately tackled the father, knocked him down, and had his jaws around the father's neck, not biting him, just holding him there until my friend called the dog off. After that incident, the doberman would never leave my friend alone with his father. If the father was in the room, the doberman would sit beside my friend and just stare at the father. Needless to say, it wasn't too long before my friend came home from school one day and the dog was no longer there.
As far as my friend knew, the dog didn't have any protection training. He was from a show dog line.
