Ok, I'll take a chance, and post my "stupid" question here. I have a fifteen month old male GSD. When do male dogs start lifing their leg to urniate? The only reason that I ask is that when I am playing with my dog...I am getting tired of smelling what I call "pee-pee leg". (lol) Of course, while we are playing I lovingly tell him - you have "pee-pee leg". We both laugh...hope you do too!
I know I'm laughing! I know what pee pee leg is all about, my pup is 10 1/2 months old and he will half ass lift his leg 50% of the time, just enough to direct the stream on his leg... I duno...your guess is as good as ours, anytime between 8 months to 2 years I guess, I have seen real young dogs lift and adults who don't.

Not to take away from the original question by Kolokea but i have a question that kinda goes along with his: do dogs that have been neutered ever lift their legs to pee? Ours has always peed like a girl and now that we got him neutered was wondering if he will always pee that way. Thanks
Many thanks to all for the prompt reply to my "Lifting His Leg" question. MY, MY, MY MY!!. Enjoyed all the answers! Special thanks to mspindler for the reference to the previous thread.
Be careful what you wish for…… My work dog lifts his leg so high that his whole body starts to contort like a corkscrew and he ends up peeing all over himself ½ the time.
My 14 year old spayed female rottie has lifted her leg from day one. I don't mean just lift the leg, I mean on trees and hydrants, etc. Funniest thing you ever could see is that stream going straight back. I never understood why she did it but she is still doing it to this day <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I never understood why she did it but she is still doing it to this day She does it because she's got a dominant personality -- either that or she spent a lot of time with just boy dogs and picked it up that way.
My dog lifts her leg too. Sometimes she'll just lift one while squatting. Other times she'll actually hike onto a rock or tree or something - just like a male.
