I swear, that show shows a lot of dumb ass owners. Today, there's a lot. One guy was putting a collar, that was three sizes too small, on a dog which had a wound on his neck, and the dog looked like the size of a German Shepherd. They also rescued dogs that were basically starved to death. One dog, he/she was so damn thin I was surprised the dog could still walk. I mean, this dogs ribs and hips were just poking through the fur. They also had a dog that had a tumor, probably the size of a basketball, and the owner didn't know nothing. It's those kind of owners I want to beat the shit out of and not get in trouble for it. I'm happy that a lot of the dogs has a happy ending.

I don't get cable, so I only watch what's on the networks. But, I did watch a little Animal Precinct when I was visiting relatives in Atlanta. That's the kind of show that ticks me off and makes me cry. The episode I watched had this woman who had thrown some 3 day old puppies in the garbage. I think that all but a few survived. I had to change the channel, as I didn't want the little kids to see it.
The only good that can come of it is knowing that for every $%*&%&$#*()*)&&^^&$$##@@!%$& out there, there are 10 decent people. At least, that's what I think most of the time. Other times, it's like the saying "The more I get to know people, the more I like my dogs.".

Some of the happiest and saddest moments of my dog training career are a result of looking for dogs to enter into our program. I'm happy that 15 out of the last 20 dogs we've put on the road came from shelters or dog pounds. Sad because that 15 was only a very small percentage of the hundreds of dogs sitting in these places, that in all liklihood will be destroyed. I have a class of 8 in training now,(5 labs, 1 mal, 2 GSD's) single purpose drug, all but one is a rescue of some sort. I have another class starting September 23 (6 dogs, single purpose drugs), 4 of them are rescues. It's just a good thing people can't put thier children in a "pound" as easy as they can a dog.

It is sad that we live in a society where dogs, children, and even some wives, are treated like property. About them not being able to drop their kids off at the pound, well, as much as I would hate to see that happen, I also understand that a LOT of children live out the majority of their youth in a home that either doesn't want them or is physically or mentally abusive to them, and merely has them around for that monthly check.
There are some incredibly cruel people in this world. We (meaning the shelter I do listings for) placed a pit bull a few weeks ago that when the owner got tired of he took it out into a lake and tied a block of concrete to its neck while it was still alive.... the neighbors saw the whole thing and wouldn't do an official report because they themselves were afraid of this sicko. The dog is fine, happy little waggy pit pull... the owner on the other hand needs to be euthanized...

Yes, I watch the animal cops, in fact I just watched it last night. The show makes me mad and sad , but it also makes me feel better because the people really seem to care about what they are doing. We need more people like that in this world. Someday, I hope I can be in position to help out dogs in need.

It is sad that we live in a society where dogs, children, and even some wives, are treated like property.
I have to jump in here! I am strongly opposed to the cruel or neglectful treatment animals get. Many people take better care of their car than their dog. It makes me furious. But, in the above sentence it gives the impression that humans and animals are on the same plane, something that I also feel is entirely wrong. I do not want to be in a world where the dog in the back yard has the rights and priveledges that humans do. I would hate to see them elevated to anything more than what they are....sorry but they are property. Property that comes with responsibility but property none the less.
Do not take this wrong but just think about the animal control people having the authority of human services department (known by many names but the governmental organizations which look into the welfare of children, the elderly, and special needs members of the community). You want to see breed specific legislation, vicious dog laws the are all inclusive of protection dog sports, cruelty investigations that go beyond the health and keeping of a dog into the phsycological status of the dog, and restrictive dog laws that are so cumbersome that they open the door to interpretations by under paid under educated animal control officials? No thank you...property they must be.
Now I must happily point out that people who beat their spouses & family members or create unsafe, intolerable living conditions need law enforcement intervention...NOW, not later and I am happy to provide such intervention when I can. I am also happy to deal with cruelty cases with animals especially since we are aware that animal cruelty and family violence are often connected.

I agree 100% with that show, I usually don't watch it anymore because it's too depressing. Sometimes I don't see how Police Officers can even like anything or anyone with all they have to deal with. When you see those people day in and day out it would be so tough in my opinion.

Sorry Kevin, I shouldn't post on here before I have had my coffee.
I understand dogs are property from a legal standpoint and that I am fine with. My problem is people that do not treat them as living, breathing, property with emotional and physical needs.
I also know that you mean about the under-educated ACO problem... as the majority of the ACO's where I am don't know a whole lot about any animal... and even worse, the town I live in doesn't even have a designated ACO. Who ever gets the call becomes animal control. Lets just say not all cops are animal lovers, and most don't want a dog in their cruiser...

Maybe the correct term would have been "object"?

That show is hard to watch. I just got cable so I was just amazed at what people do to animals. I just don't understand how someone can look at a dog tied up outside every day and not feed it and watch it die What I don't understand either is why there are so few ACO's, like they said in NY there are 5 million animals and only 10 officers for animal cruetly. Just think of how many never get saved. We only have 2 officers in a borough that covers 7,300 square miles and has a population of 84,000 and they don't work weekends.
