Hello,I have heard a little bit of talk on this subject, I was wondering about the difference in the two organizations ? I am a member of USA but I am thinking of going to DVG if it is not looking to be as much politics as with the USA. I am only looking for a club to train with that has very good helpers the USA or DVG part does not matter to me as long as I could still title a dog at either club. I am not into registration and or breeding just working not showing.

The DVG isn't without it's politics, it just is without USA's politics.

DVG is a working organization, not a breed organization so you eliminate that aspect immediately. DVG America is smaller than USA, but you are just one region within the largest Schutzhund organization in the world. Qualifing teams from America region go on to compete at the international level. The US has done very well in these competitions.
There are some minor differences in judging and other "issues", but as a whole I enjoy the groups in my region. I don't know about the rest of the country. I happen to live in an area with some top competitors and good trainers. It isn't the same everywhere.
DO IT!

In fairness to USA, of which I was a member for many years...
They are really hung up now on becoming THE German Shepherd Dog organization in the United States, and considering that the GSD breed is in pretty dire straits, no one can fault them for that.
IMHO there are two major drawbacks to USA, the "politics" (which I never paid any attention to after they sacked Meloy) aside:
1) "Alternate breed" people are definitely second-class citizens, even if you count the AWDF "bone" that USA throws their way;
2) WAY too much emphasis on conformation shows now (and I understand this too, there's no way to make money in the GSD world catering just to the working-dog people).
I'll probably be joining DVG with my young dog.

Since you're only interested in training and competing, go with whichever club is the best in your area, regardless of affliation. It's more important who you work with, week in and week out, than it is who you trial under.

That is a valid point, but of course from what I've read on this board I still like the DVG very much.

Ahhh, then you must be making the mistake of listening to VanCamp (the guy who can't remember whether he likes GSDs or mals)

Thanks, VanCamp for posting the link to DVG. Does anyone have the link to USA so we might compare for ourselves?
Thanks in advance!

Sure, take a look at how many more clubs and opportunities for trials USA has over DVG. Depending on what part of the country you live in, it's a no-brainer, cuz there's just no opportunity to do DVG.

Ahhh. . .that is true. USA is a larger organization, but the winds of change blow my friends. . .
SchH1FHpulled you are cruizin fer a bruizin. A valid point you did make (unfortunately), if there are no good DVG clubs in your area you may get stuck with USA. That can be a good thing. Learn and work close to the enemy and then when they least expect it take all the good decoys and WORKING dog people and form your own DVG club.

DVG's helper certification is a very good idea.
Not to diss the many fine, fine helpers who work USA trials, but I will never forget the guy who caught the back half at this year's DVG Nationals. I saw him collide full-speed with a flying Mal in a 40 mph wind and with an inch of standing water on the field. Caught that dog and set him down just slicker than snot. The standing ovation he received was my personal high point of the trial.
ALL of the helper work was outstanding at this event. I wish more USA people had been there to see it for themselves.
