Anyone have a doggie dooley? I have one and I dont think its working correctly for me. The dog feces is piling up and maggots/larvas are starting to eat the feces. I dont think this is the way its suppose to work. If anyone has one, let me know. I need some advise.
I bought one as well and buried it in the garden as per the instruction and lined around it with gravel. The chemical bottle of stuff that you put in it is supposed to last 12 months - I used mine in in 2 weeks. The stuff is quite expensive to buy also.
I think they'd work fine if you had a yorkie or a very small dog but I have a GSD & a Gt Dane X.
I gave up using mine as it couldn't cope with my poop factory
It's still out there in the garden but I haven't dared open the lid in a very long time.
The poop goes in the bin encased in supermarked carrier bags these days. That's my bit of recycling!
This product does not work. About 15 years ago (before I had my current kennel) I only had 4 or 5 runs. I took a 55 gallon barrel and shot some holes in the bottom and lower sides. I dug a deep hole - put a couple of feet of gravel in the bottom - set the barrel on top of it and then filled the hole with gravel - I had a 6 inch PVC pipe attached to the top of the barrel that extended above ground. I only filled gravel to within 6 inches of the surface - then put down plumbers cloth and finished it with black dirt. This lasted about 5 ot 6 years before the barrel rusted out and had to be replaced (a very nasty job) But the system worked well -
I have a doggie dooley too. It only worked when I fed commercial dog food. When I went to a 100% raw diet I noticed that the thing was getting full even when I put extra water and digester in it.
My theory is that if you feed a raw diet the food is already broken down to almost nothing anyway so now I fling the poop over the fence into the woods. It turns into chalky powder in a day or two anyway and as an added bonus keeps the neighbor kids away from my fence.
