My brother is buying a Labrador retriever for hunting. Can a person use the same practices to teach prey drive for the lab as you would for a German Shepherd ie. tug a war. Thank's in advance.

No. Training a Lab to play tug will teach the dog to crush the birds. You have to teach a retreiver to have a soft mouth. That means no mouthing and no crushing. A good book that I used to follow when I trained hunting retreivers were Richard Wolters books. The main one that you would need is "Water Dog."
