hey..im new to this board here...we just decided to get a larger dog for me, as my dog..instead of one thats "my moms", shes got a purebread toy cup poodle right now..not exactly the kind of dog i find interesting, and btw, im 16.
Ok, my uncle has a 95 pound GSD, really laid back, pretty bulky, but strong and muscluar, and a really nice dog. My uncle also has a half rott/half chow mix that hes aquired, thats around 65 pounds. This is their last litter, and the timing works out for us great, we get the puppy 4 weeks from this sun, and we get the pick of the litter cus were family. We picked the largest male, it seemed to have the best personality, seemed smart...laid back, alert, just not a yippy dog, exactly what we wanted. My uncle thought this one would get to its dad's size, and seemed to characterize after him alot, besides the face looks more rott.
Would this dog be appropriate for things like running, tracking *no competitions, just deer coyotes etc*, and this is assuming we feed it good food which we plan on, and training it right..ive been reading this board alot the last couple days and its helped out a ton for larger dogs, and im going to train it..i plan to take it on cross country practice days when we go to the park, let it set in the shade and drink water, and then walk it after were done running.
Any input ont his dog, and what i should look out for, or any comments on how i should raise it would be a big help.
I've seen some pretty crazy looking mixes do some really cool stuff. They just tend to be more unpredictable, but have fun training, who know's you may have a super star on your hands. your dog doesnt have to be a high dollar pure breed to benefit from good training. .
