I have a 6 month old gsd male. His ears are not up. I have had other gsds in the past and have not run into this. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? I have contacted my vet, they tell me if his ears are not up yet, they won't be up.
You can try taping his ears--it may work or not, but worth a try. If your vet doesn't know how to do it, find a large GSD breeder in your area and ask them to show you how to do it.

What the others have said is true, accept your vet. I have seen many that took longer than six months.
Also if the dog is teathing the ears will sometimes fall during this period.

boy , glad this thread came up ! hector , now at 19 weeks had both ears up from early on . about a week ago the right one went down . sort of combination flop down and laid back . i have seen it up sporadically in that week , but not fully erect like the left . should i be concerned , and consider taping ?
this is a purebred BC . both parents are prick eared . there is a ten year old BC in the household with floppy ears .
any and all advice accepted and appreciated ; i really want those ears up !
If niether ear is up at six months, it's not looking too good. At four months when they start teething they may drop for a week or two, but at six......Do both of his parents have their ears up?
Alicia,Sorry to tell you,but your vet is most likely correct.Who is your pup out of?What's the breeder say?.I Hope you didn't want to do protection with this dog as I'm yet to see a strong dog with weak ears(JMO) Reagards Mark
