So is this a REALLY great dog food?
I noticed not many people mentioning it here, and mentioning other brands.
Someone told me it is like the BEST dog food, that its used by the White house guard dogs/bomb dogs..Ive had my GS on it for 3 months.
As far as prepared kibbles go, I understand solid gold is good, but there are LOTS of other kibbles in its class......there is nothing magical about it except for the price.
If it works for your dog, good. My dog would have the runs from hell because of the grains in it. I also know of some dogs that cannot tolerate premium dog food and thrive on crap dog food like pedigree and beneful (yes, hard to believe)
...of course I feed raw and have never been more impressed than with the results I have had on a fresh all natural diet. Of course my dogs don't get organic chicken but neither do I.
I contemplated buying Solid Gold this weekend but ended up trying Wellness because I liked the list of ingredients better. Since then, I can barely get the food in the dish before he's nosing his way in. BTW - I'd bought Innova prior to Wellness and my rescued golden preferred the other dog's Iams over the Innova.
I am doing my homework on RAW and may eventually go that route...
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge...
My puppy was California Natural for a few weeks. I was looking to buy some over the internet but found out that wasnt possible. I found Solid Gold WolfCub puppy food on the internet and have been using it for a week now.
I also started using the Wolfking for my 13 yr old dog.
Both seem to enjoy it.
I do add a vitamin for the puppy and for both I add an Oil I got from the healthstore with Omega 3/6/9 and Vitamin E as well as Kelp.
I have started mixing free range chicken, eggs, etc.. with it for the puppy.
I agree, SOLID GOLD is an all around good premium dog food. As a retailer of SOLID GOLD, EAGLE PACK, and CANIDAE, it would probably be rated 2nd on my list. I find that Eagle Pack has a better ingredient list, especially the Holistic Series.
However, people that I talk into RAW, often start by supplementing with one of the premium foods until they get the hang of RAW. Some Yogurt, eggs, chicken necks, etc. mixed with a cup of kibble is also a good transition for the dog, IMO.
