Hi everyone,
My name is Tony and I am a K-9 trainer in Kentucky. I have been a member of this board for a while, but this is my first post. My question is...Does anyone have an email site which list examples of different scenarios used for either annual K-9 certifications, or even Schutzhund trial scenarios? Next...Does anyone know if there is a tape out there strictly showing live
K-9 bites? Either COPS, America's Wildest Police Chases, etc? All help is appreciated.

Way back in 1999 (pretty sure) the TV show "World’s Wildest Police Videos" had about three minutes of "real" bites.
If you look closely at them, they're pretty horrible deployments. I recall one, where they deployed several dogs on a nutball who had two shotguns. It looks like it was a "suicide by cop" kinda thing (where someone who wants to kill himself can't bring himself to shoot himself so he points a gun at a LE officer who does the job for him).
It winds up with one dog being wounded and several officers being bitten by the police dogs.
There's another sequence where a guy is standing in the middle of the street at night with a broad sword. They OC him from an armored vehicle but it doesn't faze him. Then a handler sends his dog but he doesn't immediately bite. Before the crook can harm the dog with the sword, his courageous handler foot-sweeps the guy and then the dog bites.
There are a couple of more but they don't come to mind.

I agree with ya Lou..then again what else is new..most of the ones I've seen on TV sucked. There have been one or two on COPS that were pretty good, but most were bad dogs, or stupid situations to put a dog in.
There was one on COPS with a nice Mal who went after some biker guy. I don't know what Dept it was with, but the dog looked confident, hit well and had nice control. The suspect had on a few layers under his heavy leather cost he didn't much feel the dog. But the target, bite and dog looked good. Other than that..have not seen much.

Hey Josh, I remember that one... the guy (wearing a thick leather jacket) holds his arm up in the air (with dog still attached) and says calmly..."get this dog off of me."
It would have been even more interesting if the dog had released and taken a leg bite.

My favorite one on COPS was in San Diego. There was a civilian out walking his GSD. The Police were using a Helicopter and guys on th ground to chase the bad guy. He was running around in aome apartments, and rounded a corner strainght in to the GSD. Dog hit him perfectly and held him until the PD showed up to take the bad guy in to custody. Then the dog outed beautifully and returned to his handler. It was really pretty to watch.

Thanks everyone for the info. I also saw the "Wildest Police Videos", and everyone is right, the situations did suck for the most part, but I thought maybe there was another better tape out there. Can anyone answer my question about the certification/scenarios? Thanks.

Tony,
The Sch scenarios are fixed and can be found on Leerburg at the main page. NAPD publishes articles on their web site( http://www.napdweb.com but the site was down this morning), if you do a search in most of the search engines on protection training you should be able to find web sites on the other ring sports (Mondio, French, KNPV, and others). Most publish the protection requirements in the rules sections. If you are interested in an obscure set go to http://www.wdogs.com and click on the American flag to get the site in English, the is a section on the Russian Great Ring with the descriptions for Protection, Obedience, Sentry, and I think one or two other titles they offer.

Tony if you contact me I'd be happy to provide some written certification scenarios I use when certifying the dogs for the TN Highway Patrol. Certification is an on-going process, reviewed quarterly, relative to in-service training, and a performance evaluation annually. You may also want to contact KY Motor Vehicle Enforcement for drug certification. They have a fine program, and I know they would assist you in anyway. If you are interested, contact me privately.
