Hey guys,
I need your advice and your help. I have a 9 month old German Sheppard who is a very good dog, I have been training him for months. He has bonded with me and respects me but the problem is he is way too hyper, especially when our Golden Retriever is around. He is always wanting to run and jump and get into everything that there is no way I can have him inside. I want him to be an inside dog like our Golden Retriever but he is too hyper and destructive. What can I do, do I keep the two dogs seperate or allow them to be together but keep correcting him when he gets out of hand.
I would first WAY up the amount of exercise you are giving the dog. Are you able to take BOTH dogs out for some off leash hiking/romping in the woods? For a few hours about every other day? How about any huge fields around so you can throw a tennis ball from a Chuck It for a half hour or so?
And how are the obedience classes going? I know that the longer I went to classes, the better control I got over my dogs in the house. So they quickly learned that they can run and chase and play while out in the yard together. But when in the house, 'knock it off' means 'knock it off NOW'. And if I was giving them enough outside exercise, they would stop.
I have 3 large dogs in the house right now, so it can be done. But I also organize my week around their exercise schedule and training. Makes it so much more enjoyable when we are in the house. Especially because the desire to have fun and play is a GOOD thing in the dogs and not something I want to be screaming at them to stop all the time. I WANT them to play together. I WANT them to burn off energy. But I also have the responsibility to give them the opportunity to do it in a good way so I have no guilt when they are trying to do it later in the house.

Jenn gace you good advice. She did not mention the use of a dog crate. In my opinion no one should have a dog like this in the house unless they have a dog crate and use it AND your training is lacking. You need to be using a prong collar and teachng the dog a PLACE command .
