I HAVE TO DECIDE IF I WILL BE BREAKING WITH POLICE TRADITION OR NOT. MY SITUATION IS THIS OUT HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA THE TRADITIONAL BREED IS THE GSD,PROBALY BECAUSE THERE ARE 2 IN EVERY SECOND YARD, BUT WE HAVE TO RELY ON DONATIONS. BUDGETS IS SOME THING WE ONLY TALK ABOUT BUT NEVER SEE. WITH THE NEW RECRUITES WAITING TO SEE WHAT I WILL BE HANDING OUT I TOOK A NEW APPROUCH TO SEE WHAT ELS WILL MAKE A GOOD POLICE PATROL DOG. WE HAVE SEEN SUCKSESFUL MALINOIS BUT IF WE GET DONATIONS WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR AND WHAT WOULD WE BEST STEER CLEAR OF, CAN ANY BODY THAT KNOWS THIS BREED AND THE POLICE PATROL DOG GIVE ME SOME POINTERS PLEASE, THEREFOR WE ARE TRYING TO FIND ONE THAT WE C REINIERG@KEMPTON.CO.ZA AN TRAIN TO SEE WHAT THIS BREED IS CAPABLE OF.
as for what the malinois is capable of, just about anything. I'd have to say (in my opinion) the malinois is the most vestitile breed, they can do just about anything and are always ready to work. the only problem you might run into is the stability of the dog. Often times you run into malinois that have weak nerves, and i think that is why many departments prefer the well balanced GSD. But as for a good worker, the malinois is an amazing breed. you just need to find the right person to test the dog for your department, but there is no reason why you can't find a malinois to do police work. I ahve sold three in the past year that are currently on the street.
