I took my Dobie pup to the training center we use..upon entering I hear "WHAT HAVE YOU GOT ON THAT POOR DOG??!!"
He was wearing his medium weight prong collar... So, I turned and calmly said "it's a prong collar, he breaks choke chains"
At that point I was informed I would have to remove 'that' (the prong) because they are cruel and cause 'soft tissue' damage and bruising. They required me to put on a choke chain!
So... I said "alright, this is your place of business, and I respect your right to your opinion. But, I'd like to say that I am using a tool to train my dog and I personally would much prefer alittle bruising on his neck then a collapsed trachea and a loose dog that I can't control."
I was very tempted to explain some of the things I've learned, however, I'm pretty sure she wasn't listening <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
The reply you received should have made a lighted billboard go off in your head that reads, "Refund, Refund". Then you should have left.
That's your dog..... you train your dog the way you want him trained....if you believe in the prong find a trainer that does too.....don’t ever let a trainer do something with your dog you are not comfortable with or don’t believe in.

Actually, it's the choke chains that cause tissue damage and bruising. Put a prong on your thigh and give it a yank and do the same with a choke chain and see which one leaves a bruise. Yes, you will probably have a few little red marks around your leg from the prong, but they will fade within a few seconds.
