my six year old female australian cattle dog has been having problems with bladder control. she was spade when she was a pup and has had this problem off and on for two years. one vet told me that is was too much sodium in her diet and another said it was a hormone imbalance from being spade. i have switched her diet twice with no change so i don't think thats it. this is not a regular thing, she will go a month or more with no problems and then start leaking for a week or two. usually only a small puddle the size of a golf ball but she has a couple times completely emptied her bladder. these accidents only happen when she is sleeping. is hormone replacement in my future?
Future? I'd have had her on a pill already for this. My older dog has had to be on meds since she was about 8 months old, now 12 and still on them.
There are 2 different meds your vet can use. A daily pill (PPL? PPA? PP something). Or the hormone. I am now using the hormone and choose to fiddle with what the vet recommended. The least they said was give the horomone once a week, but I actually have it down to once a month before she starts to leak again.
