I understand the importance of having a puppy in a crate in the home, afterall it is still a baby. I was just wondering from what age a puppy could be put in an outside kennel to stay the night?
I have just installed a panel fence in my basement (with a door of course) covering a 10 foot insert which is 6 feet deep. This is my girl GSD's new home. She is 5 months old. She began living in her kennel Sunday night and has been much less hyper and better behaved around the house (when she is allowed out) than when she was in her crate.
It really depends on the drive and temperament of the dog or puppy. As long as you stimulate his "mental health" with play and exercise, 3 months may be fine. I would be careful about the flooring on anything outside and certainly not concrete.
One of the little "snots" I have is going out @ 4 mos of age. He is just way out of hand inside and somehow has broken out on (3) occassions. After his last fiasco in shredding a $6k leather sofa, he will now be a kennel boy.LOL
Well I have to keep in mind this maniac was latched on to my sleeve @ 8 weeks of age growling and shaking. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

ha ha lorenzo <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> sounds like quite the tiger you got there!
I think 5 months is fine, although if you have a "snot" they can be out earlier. That is my pc answer. My real answer is right away with proper housing. coondogs we had did it from that age with less hair than Gsd or Mals and never had a problem, even in the winter.
