For the breeders on the forum, at what age would you become concerned if a pup's testicles could not be felt or have not dropped into the scrotum? My understanding is that you should be able to feel the testicles very early even if they haven't dropped, and then if they haven't dropped by eight weeks of age, the odds are very much against them dropping.
I had a pup that had both in the sac at the 7 week vet check who then hid one until he was 5 months old. They both came back out for good, but I was a bit worried to say the least. 2 other pups had not dropped by 8 weeks. 1 dropped by 12, the other has 1 testicle to this day.
So far as being able to feel them not in the sac, I don't know what that is going to tell you other than they are in there. If the cord is too short they won't drop anyway. Feeling 7 week old testicles is a bit tricky in and of itself. It is like finding 2 jelly belly jelly beans in a water balloon.
My current GSD/PSD, did not drop the 2nd until about 10 -11 months of age. My vet said not worry, they have seen them not drop until 14 - 18 months of age.
Anyone have any information about the dog being able to produce viable sperm if the testicles don't drop for several months or longer? My understanding is that there is an increased likelihood of sterility due to the testicles being up in the body cavity where the temperature is higher.
