I have a question about a pit bull who is a fixed 10 months old. Over the last 3 months he has bitten 5 people
He was in my sister's backyard with the kids and lunged at a kid, he had to get 20 stitches under quarentine on the day he was supposed to be off, he went to the vet I guess there were some females that were in heat and lots of barking going on,well he bit the lady in the stomach when she was weighing him. Then 5 days later he bit a 5 yr old but luckily my sister was right there and got the dog off so the arm was bruised and scraped (not reported). Saturday he bit a 9 yr old, who he's been around many times, he calmly walked by her turned his head and chomped down and she had to get 2 stitches in her butt. Monday my nephew was outside playing with a friend he wanted to go into his house to get a toy, he supposedly told the boy to wait outside because of his dog, well the boy followed my nephew in and the dog attached the boy in the chest and he had to get 28 stitches.
The health dept sounded like they were going to give him another chance after the 3rd bite but when the 4th one happened they aren't so sure. My sister on the other hand is trying to say that the boy was told to stay outside because of the dog and they have signs warning about a vicious animal on premises (made to have by health dept)and trying to save the dog
Is there any hope for this dog? Can he be trained. Honestly I don't think my sister is responsible enough to have a dog like that. They have no crate, no muzzle, aren't trying any type of training, not like she can afford it anyway.
Should this dog be put down?

The sooner the better.
Strike 1 against the first kid was bad enough. Strike 2 - Stressful situation, and vets and vet techs take those risks as part of the job, so that one might get a pass. The others were 3 chances too many.

Should have been done a long time ago from the sounds of it. Suprised at the health dept. as I was just talking to a police officer I know and he mentioned most of the municipalities around have a 'vicous' dog law. In fact, one city requires your dog to be PTS after the first bite (don't agree with that one myself...who knows the cirumstances...)

I called the health dept. and was inquiring about the situation and from what they are saying because the last 2 bites were in the home, and because my sister did all the requirements of the vicious animal ordinance they might not be able to put the dog down. They are having the city attorney looking at the case and go from there.
He said that the city looked at banning pits but then there are people that say the dog isn't a pit but a boxer or only 1/2 pit. I'm supposed to call him back on the 10th to see what's going on. It might be my sister but I'm totally against her having this dog...maybe I should mind my own business but I can't since one of the children that was bitten was my daughter. I will not return to that house until that dog is gone. I was unaware of certain things until the health dept told me. I've been around that dog many many times and he's been fine but I sure won't chance it.....

If this dog went to another house that was commited to keeping this dog at least confined in a muzzle or crate 24/7 maybe. But otherwise there`s too much chance of him biting more kids and eventually killing one. I say put it to sleep soon as possible. Until it gets pts can`t they at least put it in a seperate room or borrow a muzzle from humane society or something to prevent it from biting.

A lot of those people are probaly telling the truth. I have a purebred Boxer and 8/10 times people will ask me if it`s a pit.

It sounds like your sister has *no* business owning a dog, any dog, period ( which it sounds like you already know )

I have to agree, PTS. I always try to see the dog's side, I always try to give the dog the benifit of the doubt regardless of breed. In this case, this dog has started a cycle which is only going to get worse. It has nothing to do with the dog being protective, being bothered while he was eating, antagonized or any other excuse that *might* be forgiven for a bite. This dog is just messed up for whatever reason.
In regards to the "vicious dog" laws and lists. My agent from my home owners insurance called up one day for some insignificant reason, and then at the end of the conversations said, "oh, by the way, I'm supposed to ask you if you have a dog, and if so, what kind?". I was really surpised by this and asked him why it mattered if I had a dog or not, and if I did have a dog, why the heck would it matter what kind I had. He continued to tell me that the insurance company has a list of "20 most vicious dogs" and if you have a dog on the list, if there is ever an incedent involving that dog, it will not be covered. I have a German Shepard and yes they are on the list, as well as pits, rots and few other common dogs.
This vicious dog list is a product of my insurance company and has nothing to do with state and local laws. So that means, if you have the same insurance company as I do, it doesn't matter where you live, your dog might be considered vicious.
Long answer for YES, put that dog down ASAP!
