I have been using a prong for our pup and have run into a problem. He is 7 months old and seems to grow when I am not looking. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> His collar is either too tight or too loose to provide good correction. I heard someone mention a while back that you can purchase half links, but I have had no luck finding anything. If I wait another month he will grow into another link, but I am sure I will run into this problem again. BTW, I am using a medium weight 3mm prong.
Till their necks stop growing, I like to use the micro prongs. You get more pinch for the inch and they are really small so you can add them as necessary without hardly ever being too small or too large

The problem I had with doing that, Robert, was that the collar would unexpectedly pop apart and come off. For example, I was walking my dog around the footpath at the lake one day at heel, and I heard this 'chink!' sound and looked down and the collar had come apart from around Gypsy's neck and I was dragging it on the pavement! She has a 17.5 inch neck, so there were significantly more links in the small than in the medium-size collar, which I started using after I had the small come off a couple of times - it even came off during a correction once.

I tried the micro during his introduction to the collar. That was about 3-4 months ago. Being that he is an 80+ lb high drive pup, the smaller prongs didn't seem to make an impact on him anymore. I will try it again and see how he reacts to it. Thanks
Never had that problem, I always make sure the links are bent out and fit correctly. The cheapo micro prongs often have links that are not bent correctly and I see how they could pop off.
I add an extra link, of appropriate size, and use a zip-tie to cinch up a little bit of the chain just below the ring you connect a lead to. This lets me adjust the collar with more precision without resorting to using a smaller gauge prong.
Yea he's BIG. He has bypassed our 5yr old GSD in height and weight. Tried to use the older dogs harness on him and it fit for about two weeks. Now it wont even fit around his dang chest. Going to try a different size prong on him and see if it works.
