After reading about the e-collar on Lou Castle's website, I have come to the conclusion that my dogs and I could benefit from its use. Honestly, I have never used one and I am not sure where to begin with it. Can you give me some ideas on which ones would be the best buy? Which last the longest, which are water safe, etc?

Nancy
I have a tritonics waterfowl model & I would buy another in an instant have had this one for approx. 6 years & have had no problems with it. My retriever ate the knob off the transmitter & I called Tri-Tonics & they told me to send the unit in & they would replace it for free as they had a new design, not to many copanies would do that. Also low setting I put to my arm & could barely feel it so it has a very wide range on shock capabilities

I have a Dogtra 200NCP that I am happy with, though if your dog is very sensitive, and requires a level below about 20, then you may run into problems with this collar (there is a fix for it, tho).
What is the fix? My female is very sensitive to any type of correction. My male, on the other hand, I am sure lightning could strike him and it would not phase him. Is there a video that comes with these collars to show the proper use? I need a session with Lou.

Kristen. You mentioned having a Dogtra 200NCP. Is it not the 200NCP Gold? I was just curious because of some of the things that you mentioned in your post (ie. problems with the collar under a level 20 correction). I have the 200NCP Gold and it has a range of correction level from 0 to 100. It also has a pager setting that just vibrates the collar. That feature may be perfect for Nancy's sensitive female. Since it also features nick and constant stimulation, a level 100 on constant might be noticed by her hard male.

Yes, it's the 200NCP Gold. Ask Lou about the problems that some of them have. I don't feel like typing it all out right now.

Lazy, lazy, lazy.
Both my male and female are pretty hard dogs anyway, so I don't need to worry about that issue. I was just curious because I thought that collar had a good range of correction. I have a friend with a very soft female and she ONLY uses the pager function on her and it seems to work okay.

I had to use just the pager feature on a dog I trained last summer, because he was incredibly sensitive. I couldn't even feel anything when I put the prongs on the collar on my palm, but he would scream bloody murder, so I had to just start using the pager, and it worked for him.
With my current dog, Gypsy, I use the pager as a recall, so I have to use the actual electric stim for everything else. She's not as sensitive though, and usually works at about a level 20 or 30.

So the pager is basically a vibration? I would think that my female could handle that. This may sound like a dumb question but I will ask anyway. Each collar has a seperate remote? How would I know which one is which?

Yes, the pager is just a vibration.
The 200NCP Gold does come in a two dog model. (There is one transmitter for 2 collars.) You also save money this way.
