Dog indicates on trunk afetr indicators of narcotics are observed by an experienced interdiction Trooper, one of the top four is expected, Meth, Weed, Coke or Heroin or a derivative thereof. Imagine the surprise to all present when it turned out to be 3,900+ ( no typo) 10ml bottles of Ketamine. Any one have an explaination for this one.....no the dog was never introduced to Ketamine and yes, this is the largest siezure of Ketamine in US history ( just wish it was mine). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

It could be very simple. Most "dope heads" tend not to be into one specific drug. Most times they will have contact with numerous other drugs. They may have contaminated towels, rags, jars even enough residue from smoking a bunch of weed and then putting the vials in the car to give the dog the hit. It could be they had transported other narcotics in the trunk before and there were enough residues for the dog to hit on. Just a thought.
Thanks, Josh. That is pretty much what we deduced....although nothing else was present, we suspect a weed load may have been in the car at one time. She did (68 years old) move steriods with her one son in NJ, again, no exposure to that odor. It seemed like the only logical conclusion, just thought I'd bounce it off of the 'board.

Trooper,
could be a cross contamination issue like mentioned. A friend of my had the same thing when "special K" the cooked version of ketamine started showing up about seven years ago.
we came to the same conclusion, then got a full and empty bottle from the vet, found the dogs slammed alerts on it. We never went any further with training with it.
Customs dogs have been hitting on Estasy shipments direct from factories in Europe.
At a region meeeting of USPCA we had a Customs chemist speak, he explained the alerts.
Don't like discussing on open list
Hey Visitor, Is there a way to contact you off list? I have yet to hear of dogs CONSISTANTLY hitting on X. As the make up changes from batch to batch. I'd love to hear what they have been doing to compensate for this. We don't have Meth here but we do have plenty of X
