It`s a collar that Triple Crown came up with for making a version of a prong collar more acceptable to people who are afraid to use the metal ones. Has anyone here used one of these before? Do they work? I really want to get rid of our choke collars but my parents are sure that a prong is some kind of torture device.
Here`s what they look like: http://www.triplecrowndogs.com/shop/product.htm?loc=204
A friend of mine used this collar on his young, exuberant boxer. I think it did stop a bit of the leash-pulling, but it wasn't until he got a real prong collar that the corrections actually meant something to the dog. I don't think the plastic points are as effective, from watching the dog's reactions, although I never tried it on my arm or anything. So if you absolutely cannot get a prong, this might be an option, but a real one would work better.

Ask em if they're gonna pay the vet bill and watch your dog suffer when his trachea collapses. I stopped using the choker because it was ruining the bond between me and my dog - then 3 months after that I found out they are bad for the dog, so I switched to a prong collar, shortly after that I bought an e-collar. I swear by the e-collar now.

Who cares what they think? A choke collar is FAR more torturous than the prong collar any day of the week. Just toss the chokers, get a properly fitted prong (see Ed's article), and start using it. Ignore what your parents say at first - they should come around after seeing how well it works in person.
If you really want to make an impact, take them to the store with you and 'test' both the choke chain and the prong on their thighs. Let them be the judge of which one hurts!

It's works best for older puppies or very soft dogs that really don't need too much of a correction. But the stronger and more energetic your dog is, the more likely that the collar will pop off. It's also good for individuals who you just can't convince that a prong is humane and the best way to go no matter how many articles you show them or tell them how many dogs that it works wonders for. If you are absolutely going to go with the good dog (triple crown) collar, it's best to have a backup such as a slip lead or attached to another collar.
But yeah, the prong collar is best but anything is better than the choke!
I care what they think because I have to live with them for a couple more years. I hate being 15.
Although I mainly do training in a small park near our house I still need to have them listen at home or if we go some place. If it`s a park only collar they get wise to it and don`t listen at the dog park or in the house. So I need to have my family be willing to have it on in the house. I`m going to get a prong anyway today. I`m printing out some articles and they know the dogs don`t get any unfair corrections. Chokes went in the trash last night.

I think maybe a couple of the replies you received were based on the impression that you were an adult whose parents were giving you unsolicited advice. Yes, it's hard to be 15. I remember it clearly, even forty years later! LOL! It will change; I promise.
Printing out some articles by respected trainers is a great idea. I have to say that I agree about "anything but chokes," but I know my opinion isn't universal.
Just make sure that your dog's prong collar doesn't get caught on anything if he's gonna be wearing it inside the house. I've seen it happen before: dogs collar gets hooked to a fence, dog freaks out, ends up correcting himself by pulling away from the fence - and thus the huge fence-fear has developed. My dog never wears a collar inside the house, I hate the collar-line he develops in his fur from always wearing one.
