I had a question dealing with my 7 month old GSD. Every morning he has green mucus in his eyes. I wipe it off and then a few hours later, its back. I was wondering if that is normal or does he have health problems? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If it's green or yellow and crusty in the morning, it's probably conjunctivitis, but I'd have the vet check it out, as pannus is a common GSD ailment as well and one of the symptoms is eye discharge.
How long has this being going on for?
Is the "white" of the eye (conjunctiva) red?
Is the dog rubbing his eyes with his paws?
Is the central portion of the eye (ie the cornea) clear or hazy?
Usually the vast majority of conjunctivitis cases are viral (over 95%) and do not require any treatment.
The conjunctiva is white. He doesn't rub his eyes. The cornea is clear, not hazy. This has been going on for about a month but I didn't think that it was serious. I'll have a vet check it out. Hopefully there's nothing wrong. Thanks guys.
Press on the medial side of canthus (where the inner upper lid and lower lid meet). If pus comes out he has a tear duct obstruction. If nothing happens don't worry. Do nothing
I pressed on the medial side of the canthus and nothing came out. No puss. So I guess I don't have anything to worry about.
Thanks guys. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
