The dog looked very focused on the sleeve more than the decoy - is this normal?

I thought the routine was very good.
What are you looking at him for though....puppies, stud, etc...?
If so you have to look at more than protection and also alot of things can be hidden in a routine with training so just be carefull.

I wanted experienced eyes to watch and talk about his strengths and possible weakness they see in this video. Possibily, expose some faults in the routine. You should know this was the first time Christine trialed him. She's not his orginal handler and they scored a 97. He and his brothers are known for speed, firm bites and great obedience. If, you look at his relatives Eros ,Tom,Orry were WUSV champs, qerry placed in top 10. His other half brother Ellutte has done well in BSP and is being used as a stud in Germany. Jabina Haig another half brother was the 2002 Danish champion. I have heard only positive things about him and his relatives. Gringo is being used as a stud by Belgian, some German and Czech kennels are also using him.

Nice dog! I also want to know if he was a little too focused on the sleeve while heeling?

Nice dog... I probably wouldn't mind owning him , but he seemed a little too worried as to where the handler was. I think he should have been more focused on the helper instead.

Ok, here's my opinion of the work displayed.
First off, very hard to see the dog in the blind, bad camera angle!
Also, the loud music distracts from hearing the handler's commands.
The blinds search seemed to go smoothly with good speed for a dog that size. The dog goes into an animated bark & hold but unfortunately we can't see the helper and really can't determine what's going on in there. The dog appears to move to the right side of the helper about half way during the B&H. The dog maintains focus on the helper when the handler appears ( as far as we can tell ) and the call out appeared good, although the dog going into the heel position was blocked by spectators ( somebody smack that camera guy, will ya? )
During the down for the escape bite the dog split his attention between the departing handler and the helper.
The dogs bites appear full and committed, and the outs were nice and clean.
The dog forges a little, but that's only a small point deduction. The dog remains focused on the helper during transport, which is good.
Fast, strongly committed courage test with an excellent catch by the helper. The dog released cleanly after being driven. The re-bite was not done correctly by the helper ( notice he didn't raise his stick, the sleeve came up first....bad helper! ) but the dog recieve good pressure by the helper and released cleanly. The dog began barking strongly during the hold when the helper made eye contact, otherwise was a bit more passive than I like to see. Again a good transport back to the judge.
Worth a 97 in my book. At a high end trial he'd lose more points for some things, but he'd still be in the 90's.
Excellent sport dog from what he shows here.
Ok, that's my critique

Well noted Will. I agree.
Only thing you didn't say was how crappy the video was. Sorry videographer if you're on here but the music was a big distraction as well as the guy with the not so great teeth smiling at the camera
But a nice dog indeed.

That was good practice for me as I'm seriously considering putting in my paper work to become an apprentice SchH judge - it's time I made the commitment to the sport.
