id usually prefer a 5 year old sire to have more than a schh 1 on him, however that doesnt say that he wouldnt throw nice progeny, "its all in the genes" what are you using him for, what are the parents like, how old is the pup or dog out of them? and what is your experience with gsds, these are all questions that must be answered before anyone could really tell you what you want to hear, and on top of that, if he is a puppy he is a crapshoot at best unless you have breeders like leerburg and some others who really have a strong rep for producing high drive working dogs, or a gaurantee on the pup/dog for working ability might help as well. with pups you hardly ever get more than what you pay for, you usually hope to get what you pay for! good luck, let us know what you do and how your pup/dog is doing.
