I was just reading Ed's article on dealing with a dog that has extreme handler agression. I can see why when someone posts on the board about a dominant dog they are not referred to that article because setting a dog up using the dominant dog collar for severe correction would be a dangerous thing to try for the average dog owner. The article goes on to say that the dog may need reminders a few times a year that the handler is in control and that the dog should be kenneled or crated when not working with the handler. Obviously the average pet owner would not want a pet like this. My question is, what would a dog like this be used for primarily?? Personal protection?? I can't imagine SchH because the dog would probably have trouble passing the BH or if it did it would really not have been a good representation of the dogs overall temperment :confused
Like Will, I'm a bit confused as to why you would say this. I don't see a dog that has rank issues being unable to get a title, provided there is a good trainer/handler working with the dog. I've seen a few dogs with rank issues that are useful, some in sport and some in PSD service. I have a few opinions of trainers/handlers that claim a dog is so handler aggressive that it can't be titled, but I'll just sit on those opinions for a while.
No I have not seen it done but I do know that it includes a temperment test. Are you saying that a handler agressive dog that has to be crated/kenneled 24/7 is tempermentally sound?? I guess what I am getting at is that so often I see posts about agressive dogs and the poster is advised to euthanize the dog. Not saying that is good advise or bad. It seems the line of though is that there are so many other great dogs out there to choose from, why bother with a dog like that??? Same question for a sport, ppd, SchH dog I guess?
Chris, I think that you're confused here . The difference between what we consider a "handler aggressive dog" in a professional sense and what the dogs that are being suggested for euth. is worlds apart. And bringing up the BH but not even knowing what goes on in it isn't helping to make anything clear here.
I think you need to step back and do a little more research before you post a question like this that basically doesn't make any sense.
