I'm working a lot, so this was one of the only training classes I could fit into my schedule at the training place I like, aside from training for obedience competition (not something I want to do yet...) Has anyone had any experience with Rally? Basically, I'm just looking for an opportunity to keep up on my dog's skills, keep her around other dogs (not to play, just for socialization...) and get me out and about.
My club had a rally trial and I heard nothing but good stuff about it. I think that it can really make you and your dog a good team, due to the handling skills you'll pick up by not knowing whats next. I regret not going and have been thinking of participating in upcoming events.
I haven't started it yet, but plan to do this with my dog this Fall. My trainer claims it's a lot of fun, and it sounds great for non-working dogs. And working dogs too, I guess.
I do Rally with my girl, Akasha. This summer she earned three rally titles, RN, RA, & RE. I found rally to be a lot of fun. Akasha already had her CD and was working on her CDX (which she got earlier this month ), so I just pretty much had to learn the signs.
The main reason I did rally was because I get REALLY nervous during any type of competition and I had hoped that doing something fun like rally would help me relax.
Now that Akasha has her RE and CDX she gets to concentrate on schutzhund for the rest of the summer, which is her favorite anyway
Both my German Shepherds have CDs...we're about to start Rally, probably mid to late September. Silly me, I only trained the finish with them going behind me, and Rally exercises include both types of finishes.
The summer in New Jersey has been hot, and I've slacked off somewhat with training them, but we should be set to go for the late September, and early October trials.
Rally is a much more relaxed comptition than either Obedience or Agility, I think that's the major teason it's become so popular.
