We just imported our first GSD. She is V rated and has SchH3, KKL1
HD Normal. She has been here 6 days. She is a lovely dog that responds well to us, but:
1) She is hyper sensitive and startles very easily to noise and sudden contact. This afternoon she was sitting at my feet and when I dropped a pen…. She jumped up yapping like I had seriously hurt her. We have never owned a GSD before, not to mention a Schh3 dog. I just find this out of character based on her training. Please correct me if I am wrong.
2) Also she arrived in heat and is emitting the foulest order. It is so foul that it has made me gag several times.
I have made an appointment to see our vet but can’t get her in until next week. I am just wondering if these are things are normal for this type of dog.

1) Is she a showline? Either way, she sounds like she's got very weak nerves.
2) It sounds like either she was filthy, blew her anal sacs, or something is wrong with her. Based on what you said, I'd say it probably was her blowing her anal sacs.
Does 'imported' mean crated, flying, etc? After only six days in a new environment its hard to tell how a dog is going to react - maybe some more adjustment time is needed. I wouldn't expect an 'out of the box hard dog' after only a few days. Not sure what her lines are either; a 'Sch3, KKL1, V rated' doesn't always mean the same from dog to dog.
In other words - its hard to answer your question (1) from just the information provided in a forum post.
She is not filthy that’s for sure… the order is particularly strong when she grooms her genital… it is ghastly. A friend told me dogs in heat smell, but this smell is just plain horrid. I will have to call my vet and see if he can expedite our appointment.
How would a dog blow their anal sac? Sounds awful.
She is a working dog. She was crated and flown here from Germany. I agree it seems like she has weak nerves and I am surprised as I was told she had rock solid nerves and a very clear head. We have small children and I was very clear to the breeder who imported her that this dog had to be totally stable. As you can imagine, I paid a sizable sum for the schh3 title as assurance that she was a rock solid dog.
I hope I haven’t been duped.

I am PMing you about vaginal infection symptoms. I think you are right to hasten the vet appointment. IMO, the heat smell is not horrid or gaggy, and infection smell can be.

One PS about anal sac or vaginal infection: I wouldn't rely on an assessment of the dog's temperament while the dog has an infection. Just a thought.......

She is a "working dog" or a working line dog? What's her pedigree?
Coming from Germany does not assure quality. Having a SchH3 title does not assure quality. Though they can be a good marketing ploy to sell a dog.
