Maybe this will help to promote this breed in the US as a true working breed like it is in Europe. My last ppd was a boxer from the US but had an incredible grip. He was also fully obedience trained with hand signals. I'm currently waiting on a litter in Germany for my next charge. Thanks for the forum Ed!

Hi Luke! I have a rescue,Faith, that is a Boxer mix. I believe she's mixed with a Jack Russell Terrier, but not 100% sure. I absolutely love having her. The vet and I both believe she's about 8-10 months old...first heat apparently, first pregnancy, etc. All the signs of her "firsts" when I brought her home on August 24th of this year. I am currently noticing many things about her. I do wonder, since I'm not familiar with the Boxer breed itself,if it's normal for their tail to go up(hers curls a bit towards her back when this happens)and sniffing through the grass, completely to the ground,as if she is sniffing something out..?? Now,I am aware that dogs sniff things, lol, but this is above and beyond anything I've ever seen with a dog outside of the police/military search dogs. She is so intent on sniffing until she finds what she is looking for(no matter where the trail leads her).
Oh,my name is Linda. I have five children living, six altogether. I have a female cat,Mandy, and now Faith. I used to volunteer at a humane society out in California as a child, and have always had many dogs,as well as cats. I'm used to the larger breeds, such as the german sheppards, great danes, pits(only had one as a child, but it was a rescue and was apparently fought before we got him..he ended up biting my brother in the face,unprovoked...he was just plain mean from his upbringing, but never have I found another that wasn't a great furry friend,coon/blue tick hounds, pharoh hounds, etc. I've had a few smaller breeds as well, but prefer the large breeds myself. Faith and Mandy are both inside, they are our family members
I'm trying to train Faith, but am thinking she may be a good candidate for specific training above "normal" obedience/socialization training. Maybe I'm wrong, but it never hurts to find out if she would fare well with something specific.
I am happy to become a member of this site. I do look forward to having discussions with you,as well as others on this board.
Have a pleasant day!
Linda

A Jack russell and a boxer! That may be a tall order.
That must be one rambunctious dog! It's normal for them to hold their tales up btw.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to get back here....too much to mention, lol!
I know,I'm thinking someone must have done something for those two to mate, lol! I love my girlie though! She has put on a lot of weight from the day I got her. She was nothing short of skin and bones back then....as of about three or four weeks ago,she weighed in at 58+ pounds. The week prior to the last visit, she weighed in at 52 or 53,can't remember now. I'd say that's a big improvement in one week alone though.
She has seperation anxiety when we leave or sleep though. My kids have had several new pairs of shoes(as well as myself!)that have been chewed up beyond further use. Unfortunately, shoes are expensive....but you can't tell Faith that though....she wouldn't care, lol!
She is apparently "severely" allergic to flees(guess she gets them when we go outside to potty). I need to treat my yard with something safe enough for her and the kids. Any thoughts on this?? I'm open to information/suggestions from all of you here. We do have a preventative on her,but it's not enough. She gets whelts from the bites and has to have steroid shots Poor thing.
I don't know if pictures are allowed here, but she has a dogster page that needs updated pics on it now. I'll go read to see if it's allowed the first chance I get(probably not tonight though).
Thank you for reading and responding to my reply,it is appreciated greatly!
Linda P

Like many compulsive or obsessive activities by house dogs, destructive chewing can be greatly reduced or eliminated by EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE.
Structured exercise (big walks, training sessions, hikes, very active games) are wonderful for the dog and wonderful for the reinforcement of the pack-leader status as well.
Tired dogs are happy dogs.
Before you leave and before you sleep is the perfect time to do the long walk.
And when you do leave, do you know to make it absolutely casual and calm? No big deal, no special attention to the dog, no soothing or reassuring........ Also, I've had success with dogs who barked or whined while their owners were gone by doing surprise returns. Leave (calmly), hide or get in the car (don't let the dog know you are right outside), and then come back. Do this at varying and lengthening intervals.
Return calmly, too.......no excitement, again, and no soothing or reassuring or "poor baby."
BTW, I grew up with Boxers and Bulldogs and love them!

Lots of threads about how to post pictures in the "search" function -- and I noticed that the date range has been changed so the default is ten years now instead of one week! I betcha that will eliminate 99% of the "search" bewilderment that was always coming up.......
Here's a LOOOOONG "chewing" thread:

I totally agree. Boxers were developed by Frau Stockmann to be working dogs, with healthy bodies and brains. My Boxer who is retired now, competed in obedience. He is a very confident boy, who is all around great dog. He is the end of his line, and finding another as great as him would be very hard. He is not from working lines, so I was very fortunate. He has a more stocky build, and not flashy.
I look forward to reading more about everyone's Boxers.

yes this is really nice to have a working boxer section.
i have always been a little boxer crazy even tho i currently i have gsd's now, my older one must live a slower life due to her HD. as soon as my mom said she wanted to take my gsd to live with her. my younger gsd is my "learning how to do it correctly from the start dog" i contacted a boxer kennel that breeds working lines here in germany, the sire and dam were bred early november and i hope to find out very soon if the breeding took. if all goes well, by the time i get back from dropping my older gsd off at mom's house the pups should be ready .. im even more excited to see how far i can take him with competetions with the time i have left to live in germany.
