Will, when I got home this evening from training, I had been emailed that video from another friend, and I couldn't help but think, damn! that has to be Atos's son!! I felt like I just couldn't get away from it, it was like the hardest hitting highlights was just jammed in my head(either from Atos or the ground, one of those times . That damn Atos, he maybe ahead, but i'll show that dog once and for all he can't just rag doll me to the ground everytime, LOL!! Oh, and BTW, how Ironic, Neeka and I now have matching Elbows thanks to Atos!!
Accidents happen no matter what walk of life we're in, that goes the same for animals! As for handlers getting injured, I remember watching something on Animal Planet about a lady who cared for rescued horses (doesn't ride them). She used to be a SchH helper, and they showed the video of her last bite. The dog that nailed her sent her flying back very painfully. I think she may have busted something in her neck/back because she said the doctors told her if she took another neck/back injury she'd be paralyzed. And there are quite a few posts on the forum about dogs breaking their teeth during bitework. From the looks of the video, the dog landed flat in a good position. If he landed on his head, it could have been a very different outcome. As it is, looks like that spin just fueled his fire!
Okay, I am writing strickly from an uneducated stand point but if that was my dog I would be more than a little ticked. I mean it does not take a brain surgeon to figure out if you hold out the sleave and then do a side step you are going to get the clothes line effect on a dog running at that speed. Hence, the spin.
Makes you wish the dog had gone for a nice thigh level leg bite instead... I don't know if it was accidental or not, but either way that decoy looks like a menace to the dogs.
