Yesterday I was on my way to the forest preserve to let the dogs run, and I stopped at the post office. I left all the windows down and the temp was only in the mid 70's. When I got out of the post office there is this lady standing next to my truck. As I walk up she asks if the dogs are mine, I tell her yes. At this point she starts screaming at me about how my dogs don't have nearly enough room and that it’s so cruel of me to leave them in the car like that(I have an SUV and they are gated in the cargo area).... I star off polite and tell her that they were only there for a few minutes while I dropped off a package and that they are fine. Well this doesn't satisfy her, at this point I'm getting mad, I tell her that she would be hard pressed to find any two dogs in better health and that she should mind her own business. She say's, "Well someone should be watching out for your four legged friends" so I told her someone should be watching her cholesterol and left.
You always get the dog you deserve... |

The same thing has happened to me several times - I have come out of a store and someone tells me it is too hot in the car for my dogs. Even though I have an automatic starter and the car is running with the air conditioner on, they feel they just have to make a statement. I finally got so tired of hearing it that after one lady told me blah, blah..., I just looked at her and said, "I don't know what your problem is - it never hurt the baby!" She muttered all the way back to her car and I had a good laugh.
As you think, so shall you be. |

I used to have a lot of dents in my vehicle from people like thats heads. I have calmed down quite a bit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> At any rate I like to make them cry, by telling them that every minute they waste with me that thousands of animals are cruelly locked up in comfortable houses, with expensive beds and basically every luxury. How cruel that is when they could be roaming freely, to be killed off by rival packs, or to be kicked in the head by a prey animal breaking their jaw, so that it hangs down and they slowly starve to death. Of course I mention the extra cold winters that they are being deprived of, where if they don't get enough calories in them, the cold takes thier lives.
How dare we! I still dream of the good old days where people like that were allowed to have dumb opinions, and we were allowed to beat them for it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I say we normal people pass a law that allows US to pack up and chase them around. Well, at least I'm not bitter.
I am smarter than my dog, your just not. |

Just tell them to take it up with the dog, then give the dog the command to begin barking and scare the pee out of them <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Had something similar happen to me this summer...
I was travelling home from a Schutzhund seminar and there was absolutely no shade in the parking lot at the rest stop on the highway. So, I drove down to the picnic area and found some shade to park in. My older Malinois was loose in the car while the other two dogs were crated. I opened the sunroof, left the front windows open enough so that my dog couldn't get out (but if someone WANTED to, they could have put their hand in to open the lock) and popped the hatch. I own a hatchback and have a metal bar that allows me to crack open the hatch while still keeping it locked (http://www.thebuddycompany.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11&products_id=45). I walked up to the rest stop, used the facilities and bought some lunch for me and cold water for the dogs. I was gone all of 10 minutes and when I got back there was a woman standing by my car. She didn't say anything and watched as I took care of the dogs while my lunch got cold. She left when I sat down at a picnic table to eat my lunch. I know it was hot but they weren't in any danger.

I couldn't get your link to work, and these things are soooo great that every dog person should have one. Here is the one I have: http://www.ventlock.com/tailgatelock.php
They are kind of pricey for what they are, but it's the best $25 I ever spent. My car also has a "deadbolt" feature, so that you can disable the interior handles. This way, no one can reach in to open the door.

There's a bankrupt golf course less than a mile from my house that I've been using as my personal tracking venue this summer. I had my dog in the car with the usual windows down far enough to stick his head through but not to crawl out. I was laying a track a couple of hundred yards from the parking lot when a female jogger came up to me and told me to move my car to the shade. (There is no shade in the parking lot). I told her I would just be a few more minutes and she started yelling. I told her I appreciated her concern for my dog but I really was not mistreating him. She would have none of it. She threatened to call the police and I told her to go ahead, that's who I'm training him for. She stomped off in a huff. I don't think I broke any laws by impersonating a dog trainer and she left me alone.

The truth is out. I'm impersonating a dog trainer. Just thought I'd beat everyone to the punch on that one.
